The Municipality of Timbourough is a province of the Republic of Checkland with a unique constitutional status. Although it is a province, it has retained the official designation of "Municipality", making it the only province in Checkland to do so.
Timbourough was originally established as a municipality within the Province of Paxia in March 2025. As the community grew, it was separated from Paxia and elevated to provincial status. During the transition, Premier Timothy Holder requested that the new province retain the title of Municipality rather than adopting the designation of province. The proposal received broad support from the residents of Timbourough and was formally adopted.
No official reason was ever provided for retaining the municipal designation, and despite occasional curiosity surrounding the decision, no formal explanation has been issued to this day. As a result, the Municipality of Timbourough remains a distinctive feature of Checkland's administrative structure.
Tim Holder has served as the Premier of the Municipality of Timbourough since its establishment as a province in March 2025. Prior to provincial status, he served as the Mayor of Timbourough during its time as a municipality within the Province of Paxia.
Holder was one of the most influential political figures during the second sitting of the Grand Assembly. Through his leadership and the strong support of the residents of what was then the Municipality of Timbourough, he successfully advocated for the community's elevation to provincial status.
Following its separation from Paxia, the new province was named Timbourough in recognition of Premier Holder's leadership and contributions to its establishment. He has remained Premier since the province's founding, making him the longest-serving head of government in the Municipality's history.
