🏛️ Government of the Republic of Checkland
The Republic of Checkland is a constitutional parliamentary republic with a structured yet flexible government that balances authority between elected officials and the citizenry. Founded on December 6, 2020, Checkland’s political system is rooted in democratic values, national pride, and a strong defense of civil liberties. The national motto, “Memento Mori | Remember Death,” emphasizes the importance of duty, humility, and legacy in governance.

⚖️ Structure of Government
Checkland’s government consists of three primary branches:
🏛️ Legislative – The Grand Assembly
The Checkland Grand Assembly is the national legislature, responsible for debating and passing laws. All citizens may propose legislation, and most laws must pass through citizen voting, as mandated by Amendment XXVIII to the Constitution. The Assembly is led by the Speaker of the Parliament, currently Willard Ross, who ensures orderly debate and voting procedures.
👨⚖️ Judicial – National Courts
The Judiciary interprets and applies the laws of Checkland, ensuring they remain constitutional. While standard cases are handled by appointed judges, major or constitutional matters may be referred directly to the Prime Minister for final arbitration. This hybrid model provides both legal rigor and national-level oversight.
👔 Executive – Prime Minister & Cabinet
The Executive Branch is led by the Prime Minister, currently Stephen Pynch, who serves as Head of Government. The Prime Minister appoints ministers to oversee national departments:
• Minister of Defense: Caleb Littler
• Minister of Internal Affairs: Lucas Schwager
• Minister of Finance: Jupiter Ross
• Minister of Foreign Affairs: Darryl Ross
• Secretary of State: Willard Ross
Each Minister directs their department in alignment with national policy and Checkland’s Constitution.
⸻
🗳️ Elections and Political Parties
Checkland has two main political parties:
• The Checkland Conservative Party – Currently the ruling party; emphasizes national sovereignty, defense, traditional values, and limited government.
• The Liberal Party of Checkland – The official opposition, led by Lucas Schwager, advocating for progressive reforms and increased individual freedoms.
National elections are held regularly, with open participation. Citizens are also empowered to vote directly on laws under the new Citizen Legislative Voting Rights Amendment.
⸻
🏠 Provincial & Local Governance
Checkland consists of several provinces, each with appointed or elected Premiers who oversee local matters. For example:
• Paxia – Capital province; led by Premier Amber Ross
• Salusia – Led by Premier Richard Pynch
• Timbourough – A province retaining the “municipality” title; led by Premier Timothy Holder
Each province may also have its own services such as municipal police forces or cultural departments.
⸻
📍 Capital and Parliament
Checkland’s capital city is Paxia, known for its cultural and historical importance. While Paxia serves as the symbolic heart of the nation, Parliamentary sessions are conducted online, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all members regardless of location.
⸻
⚖️ Constitution and Laws
The Checkland Constitution is the supreme law of the land, composed of 28 Amendments as of 2025. It guarantees rights such as:
• Freedom of religion and speech (including controversial speech unless accompanied by a show of force)
• Protection of digital privacy
• Environmental stewardship
• Direct citizen voting on laws (unless exempted by the Prime Minister or Supreme Court)
The Checkland Criminal Code is modeled after Canadian and American systems but reflects Checkland’s own values—often conservative in nature.
⸻
🕊️ Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains Checkland’s relationships with other micronations. Diplomatic requests should be directed to the Ministry’s official email, not to the Minister (Darryl Ross). Checkland has established numerous treaties of mutual recognition and values respectful foreign engagement.
